Digital Age

" What turns me on about the digital age, what excited me personally, is that you have closed the gap between dreaming and doing. You see, it used to be that if you wanted to make a record of song, you needed a studio and a producer, now, you just need a laptop. " ~ Bono Quotes
As time passes by, we observe progress in the way of our living. From the sticks and stones used in counting, to the Pascal's Calculator, to the computers and laptops of today's generation. We now experience the "Digital Age" where electricity is used. We are now modernized.

People around the globe are now aware of the digital things like internet. They make accounts in Facebook, Twitter and many other social networking sites. to communicate faster and easier, we use the very common language where millions of people know how to use. the English language.

Reflection

What my teacher in ICT is... is very much more important than what she teaches.

This grading period, I was very busy in many activities to the extent that I can't attend some of my classes anymore. Many teachers scold me and say things which my two ears don’t want to accept. They scold me in front of my classmates but not all of them does. There’s one teacher who completely understands and appreciates what I do for the school, and she is my ICT teacher. She just says “Long time no see Tine” every time I enter the computer laboratory. She welcomes me with a smile and tells me what I missed. I thank her for that.

This grading period is all about Hypertext Mark-Up Language or what we call HTML. We had many exercises regarding this. I liked our lesson because it can make our accounts, posts and comments more acceptable to the eyes of viewers. I am hoping that next grading period, I could attend more days in my classes and of course learn more from my ICT teacher.

Through Teamwork

"Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success."   ~ Henry Ford
The month of September is intended to remember Mother Mary.  Aside from that, it is also a time to bear in mind that we are made for the environment and the environment is made for us.  Thus, it is our obligation to be a catalyst and advocate of environmental awareness. Stated in the Presidential Proclamation No. 264 is the celebration of the National Science Club Month (NSCM), the Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs (PSYSC) on September  with the theme “Chemergy: Chemistry and Science Clubbing in Synergy.”
Before anything else, may I state how Chemistry grew like a flower that gives bliss to every individual who has it. In the past centuries, there was a group of people who were trying to experiment things that can uplift their living. These were the Alchemists. They wanted to turn cheap metals into gold and make humans immortal. They were the very first group of people who gave attention to CHEMISTRY. Because of this, we now have what we call “ECONOMIC PROGRESS”. But, Chemistry cannot do it by itself. Rather, it needs Science Clubbing in order to make work easier and better.
As what the team SSG for eternity says, “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!”  It is very appropriate for any club to work hand in hand in reaching a common goal. From the very beginning, the goal of Chemistry is development. Development of food, infrastructures, jewelry, and many other things related to what people want. But, the product of Chemistry will be more polished and would be better if Science Club will offer its hand in making things happen. We can uplift our status in life if we obtain and exercise teamwork in everything we do. We must have synergy!

You Are The Genuine Defintion

What the teacher is… is more important than what he teaches.
 ~Karl Menninger

Every one of us has a living hero to whom which we admire.  We know Wonder Woman, Flash, Superman, Batman, and Spiderman as superheroes with extraordinary strength and capabilities. But, these are just characters in the world of fiction and in thoughts of man-kind. Do we really have living heroes which shed light unto our profound existence? Of course, we all do have heroes which we keep in the innermost chamber of our hearts.

True heroism never speaks of super strength and super speed. It’s neither about invisibility nor flying capability. Rather, true heroism is on the subject of full devotion, selflessness, and sacrifice. A genuine definition that is truly and extremely apposite for our altruistic teachers.

Our teachers who are munificent of their time, talent, and knowledge are the living heroes and saviors of today’s needs and inquisitiveness. Thanks to them, we are now living in a world of learning, or should I say, a world of edifice: a preparation for tomorrow’s dreams.

My teachers are my heroes for they build us to become more of what we can be. They mold us to become better populace of our realm. They not only teach but also touch the lives of not hundreds of students but millions of us. They inspire us to do things not only for ourselves but for others. They make us bite the apples they have. They allocate whatever things or information they know. They are selfless.

The two-word “thank you” is never enough in paying back the hard works and sacrifices they’ve given. As we commemorate the Teachers’ Day Celebration, I take this opportunity in showing appreciation to our teachers in Ilocos Sur National High School and teachers around the globe. Thank you, dear teachers. WE SALUTE YOU!

Hero of my life

The characteristic of genuine heroism is its persistence. All men have wandering impulses, fits and starts of generosity. But when you have resolved to be great, abide by yourself, and do not weakly try to reconcile yourself with the world. The heroic cannot be the common, nor the common the heroic. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Everyone of us has a living hero to whom  which we admire.

My superb hero is not Superman nor Wonder Woman. She can't fly, she can't carry tonnes but she keeps me going. She has been a part of my life from me as a single-cell up to now. She made me lived to the perfect life I have at present. She keeps me smiling even problems arise. She knows when I am feeling like the world's on me. and when she does she asks what's wrong then hugs me tight. She pampered me with true love and caress. She has been giving me everything she can and have. She is my mom.

She can't carry tonnes but she carried me in her womb for nine months. She sacrificed for my life. She can't run at a very high speed but can run as fast as she could when I needed help. She can't produce web like spiderman but she can produce something for our living. She is not a perfect fictional super hero in the television but she is the only hero I could ever ask for in the entire life I have. She is my super mom. I love her!

As Henry Beecher said, the world's battlefields have been in the heart chiefly; more heroism has been displayed in the household and the closet, than on the most memorable battlefields in history. Meet the super hero of my life, my mother, Mrs. Miriam Llanes Requilman.

Pnoy's SONA

How do we move forward if we keep on pulling others down?
Last  July 25, 2011, the elected president of the Republic of the Philippines, Benigno Simeon “NoyNoy” Aquino had his second State of the Nation Address at Batasan Pambansa ComplexQuezon City. The State of the Nation Address is an annual event in the Philippines, in which the President reports on the status of the nation, normally to the resumption of a joint session of the Congress . This is a duty of the President as stated in Article VII, Section 23 of the 1987 Constitution: The President shall address the Congress at the opening of its regular session. He may also appear before it at any other time.
He said with pride that during his term, our country has already had several changes compared to Macapagal's administration wherein falls were observed. P-noy opened doors to his accomplishments and the state of our country. He dubbed about the politicians who only prioritize their personal interests. He called them “utak wang wang”.  President Aquino vows to end culture of ‘wang-wang’. He calls on private sector to pay proper taxes. His government lines up new legislative measures for people’s benefit. President Aquino vows to defend country’s territory, sovereignty. President Aquino ready to submit proposed 2012 national budget to Congress. President Aquino appoints Carpio-Morales as new Ombudsman. President Aquino asks Filipinos to stop ‘culture of negativism’ or ‘crab mentality’. I think his SONA was all about the “wang-wang”. I am not that satisfied but its still his first year. Maybe, he has a lot more to do.
We all once fell. Are we going to stand and make a new beginning? It is now time to iron those folds and faults of our country. From his SONA, a stuent leader like me can learn many things from it. We must all work together for the improvement of our own country. Instead of pulling others down, Why not try to put them on our shoulders for us to reach our goal we all want to?

Isulong ang Breastfeeding! TSEK!

Breastfeeding should not be a choice. It is a must and a will. Breastfeeding is a need.
Children is everybody's concern. We are important in building a better community united with a common vision of loving and caring towards further development.
Tell me if there's a mother who wants to see her child to be sickly and malnourished. Is there a mother who wants to see her child to be as flat as paper or as thin as bamboo grass? Absolutely no person wants to. No person dares to and no person should be.
Once you've given birth, one of the most important things you can do or give to promote good health and to save your baby is breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is giving human breast milk to infants to meet their nutritional needs. According to study, babies who are fed with formula milk are more sickly. They are at risk of having ear infections, kidney infections, respiratory infections, pneumonia, bronchitis and blood poisoning. On the other hand, breastfeeding is beneficial. Aside from it is free, it is always ready and available. Breast milk contains all the vitamins and mineral your growing baby needs. Some of the nutrients in breast milk also help protect an infant against some common childhood illnesses and infections, such as diarrhea, middle ear infections, and certain lung infections. Breast milk provides the right balance of nutrients to help an infant grow into a strong and healthy toddler. You don't need to buy much for your baby saving you a lot of money. Breastfeeding plays an important role in our lives. It creates special bond of the mother and child which is one thing formula milk cannot do.
So, let us make detonation in the entire world and say, " I am the catalyst and advocate of right, enough and exclusive breastfeeding! "

My Letter for P-Noy

Benigno Simeon "NoyNoy" Cojuanco Aquino III
Republic of the Philippines, President

Mr. President,

             Greetings with love and peace!

Hi, I am Christine Ann Llanes Requilman, the Regional Federation of Supreme Student Government Vice President of Region I from Ilocos Sur National High School.

I wrote a letter not about education but about the issues I hear around me -- The Reproductive Health Bill or the Reproductive Health and Population Management Act of 2008 which was proposed by Representative Edcel C. Lagman of Albay.

I believe that this act mainly promotes national policy on reproductive health, responsible parenthood and population development. It is also about disseminating information to the public about natural and modern ways related to family planning. According to statistics, over population is the root of  poverty in our country. So, one way to eradicate it is to promote family planning and reproductive health. This RH Bill is also a gate way to solve some of our problems like maternal health, child mortality, HIV/AIDS and many other Sexually Transmitted Diseases. THis RH bill is not just about the use of contraceptives but it also regards about counseling on sexuality, sexual and reproductive health, prevention and treatment of infertility and RH education not only for adults but also for the youth like me.

I believe that RH bill is not anti life, anti baby or anti family. It does not make way for  abortion to be legalized also. But this act is a help for the preparedness of parents for their off-springs and will be a very big help in our nation. Maybe I am still very young to involve myself to this issue but we cannot remove the fact that I grow up. I belong to the generation of people who'll suffer the consequences of today's misdid. If I were to be asked Mr. President, I'll say YES for RH BILL.

Mr. President, I hope that this opinion of mine wouldn't just be ignored. I hope that this letter would help you in deciding if you'll say yes or no to The Reproductive Health Bill or the Reproductive Health and Population Management Act of 2008. thank you for the time sir. God bless!

Truly Yours,
Christine Ann Llanes Requilman

Nutrition Month Celebration '11

The consequences of malnutrition during the most crucial years of a child persist throughout life. Stunting is seldom reversed in later childhood and adolescence, and malnutrition can impact not only on the individual but also on the country as a whole.
Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 491 issued in 1974, the Philippines celebrates July as Nutrition Month. With the theme “Sa pagkaing tama at sapat, wastong timbang ni Baby ang katapat” (Proper and sufficient food to ensure Baby’s proper weight), the celebration will focus on the importance of complementary feeding as a strategy to prevent under-nutrition among young children.
Complementary feeding is giving other foods and liquids to infants when they reach 6 months while continuing breastfeeding, as additional foods and liquids are not meant to replace breast milk and are not sufficient on their own. Data from the Seventh National Nutrition Survey conducted in 2008 reveal that malnutrition levels are three to four times higher among children who are at least eight months old due to insufficient quantity and inadequate quality of complementary foods, poor child-feeding practices, and high rates of infection. Complementary feeding is deemed as one of the effective means to address undernourishment among children.
Apart from complementary feeding, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) offers other appropriate feeding practices for children six to 24 months, including frequent on-demand feeding, night feeding for infants, increasing food quantity and feeding frequency as the child ages, while maintaining breastfeeding; feeding infants directly and assisting older children when they feed themselves; frequent and responsive feeding especially during and after illness; and good hygiene and proper food handling to prevent food-borne diseases.
Among the suggested activities that can be undertaken by concerned individuals and groups are: Making available nutritionally adequate and low-cost infant supplementary mixes to economically disadvantaged families; organizing training for health workers in implementing policies and guidelines on infant and child feeding; establishing infant feeding and care support groups where mothers can be referred to; and adopting a nutritionally depressed barangay for the implementation of nutrition and related projects and activities.
Such initiatives will help in ensuring the health of today’s children in whose hands the future of our country lies.
